Bursaries and Scholarships

This scholarship is awarded annually to a student who is planning to further their education (certificate, diploma, or degree) at a post-secondary institution in a Forestry, Forest Products Manufacturing, Natural Resources or Environmental Sciences related career or any health and safety related programs.

High school graduate pursuing post-secondary studies in Forestry, Forest Products Manufacturing, Natural Resources or Environmental Sciences.

Big Lakes County students in grade twelve at the time of application; or students registered or currently attending a post-secondary institution, who were residents of the County for at least one year preceding the start of their program.

High School graduate who will be or is currently attending a post secondary education or;
The applicant is currently in the workforce but will be attending a postsecondary program to upgrade skills.

Students enrolled in studies leading towards working in local government will be given preference. 

High Prairie and Area student who is entering post-secondary studies and has displayed excellence in a combination of academics, volunteerism, and citizenship.

Big Lakes County student pursuing post-secondary studies in biology, earth sciences or a water focused program.

Awarded by the High Prairie Agricultural Society to a student pursuing post-secondary studies in agriculture.

2 scholarships for High Prairie and area high school graduates who are pursuing a post-secondary education. Preference is to children of Tolko employees or students pursuing education in Forestry or related studies.

Students, who have graduated from High school while residing in the Smoky River Region, and who are enrolled in any of the professional medical field are invited to apply. Priority is given to first year students. 

Students residing in a rural municipality and enrolled in a post-secondary program relevant to local government or rural communities.

Students must be entering their first term of post secondary studies at Northern Lakes College within one year of graduating high school, and must have completed an NLC
dual credit course while in high school.

Children of co-operative members of gas utilities within the Federation of Alberta Gas Co-ops Ltd., as well as, children of landowners who are serviced by Member Utility towns, villages, counties, or First Nations.

Open to any post-secondary student with a parent or relative currently employed at West Fraser.

Open to all Alberta rural farm youth who must leave home to pursue a post-secondary education or trade. Please note a rural farm youth is defined as a youth who has lived on a farm in Alberta for the majority of their life and the farm is the primary source of family income. 

Must be enrolled as a first-year student at an acknowledged post-secondary institution and not have previously started or completed a post-secondary program.

Intended for students pursuing a post-secondary education. Priority may be given to students going into Education, or a field working with children. However, all applications are welcome. Students must demonstrate Academics, Volunteer Service, Work Experience, Hobbies and Athletics.

Awarded to a student who is planning to further his/her education at a post-secondary institution. Priority given to a student pursuing studies in Education, or a student who has not received a scholarship or bursary from another person, firm or organization within the Slave Lake area.

Awarded to a student who is planning to further his/her education at a post-secondary institution. Priority will be given to current/past Boston Pizza employees, or an individual pursuing a career in culinary arts.

Awarded to an applicant who is pursuing a career that helps heal the body. Examples include science-based careers pursuing end goals of Athletic Therapist, Physiotherapist, Doctor, Nurse, Dentist, and Pharmacist.

This scholarship is open to any Slave Lake high school graduate with fine arts credits. Can be any year of study. Must be enrolled at an accredited post-secondary institution in a visual or performing arts program.

Downtown Physiotherapy and Massage is honored to be a sponsor of the Downtown Physio Scholarship, which is designed to assist local students pursuing post-secondary education in Physiotherapy/Occupational therapy -related fields.

This bursary is awarded annually to a post-secondary student from our watershed who is pursuing environmental sciences, biology, earth sciences, or a water focused program starting in September.

This scholarship serves to honor the memory of Gary Wolstenholm, who was an avid outdoorsman and believed deeply in the value of young people pursuing higher education/training. He was a respected member of the community and an outgoing friendly face around town.

Graduates must be entering a further education program that leads to either a career in the trades or technology area and/or a student who will be entering a post-secondary program in physical education or the recreation field.

Available to high school graduates registering at a post-secondary institution. Preference will be given to a student showing leadership in school activities and community involvement.

Intended for a RMSS graduate who is planning on furthering his/her education at a post secondary institution in any program of study.

Intended for students pursuing post-secondary studies in nursing or in the healthcare field.

Residents of Slave Lake, High Prairie, Wabasca and surrounding communities are encouraged to apply. *There is the ability for eligible students to receive a matching $500 from the NADC, which would double the award to $1000.

Intended for students pursuing post-secondary studies in Education. Priority will be given to Education Assistants.

This scholarship was established to award students graduating from the Slave Lake/Kinuso area who intend to pursue studies in a health-related field.

Students must be entering their first term of post secondary studies at Northern Lakes College within one year of graduating high school, and must have completed an NLC dual credit course while in high school.

For graduates of Roland Michener since 1985 who are registered in post-secondary. Must be able to provide proof of enrollment in a program. Must have graduated at least 1 year ago.

This scholarship was established by the 2023 Graduation class. The purpose of this scholarship is to be awarded to someone who will be furthering their education past high school in any shape or form, ensuring that anyone can apply and feels open to do so. This includes – but is not limited to – post-secondary education, apprenticeships.

The Rotary Club of Slave Lake Scholarship is intended for a graduating high school student for outstanding community involvement through volunteerism, leadership and/or extra-curricular activities.

Will be awarded to an RMSS graduate who is planning to further his/her education in the field of business/commerce or planning to attend Northern Lakes College in Slave Lake.

Available to graduating students for post-secondary education support. Preference is given to residents of Slave Lake and MD124 going into health careers or Emergency Services.

Intended for a high school graduate from a school in Slave Lake. Graduates must be entering a further education program that leads to a career in the healthcare sector, and potentially planning to return to work in the Slave Lake area.

The Slave Lake Native Friendship Centre would like to support in the form of a bursary to a graduate of RMSS or Lakeside Outreach School.

For grade 12 graduates in Slave Lake who have been actively involved in volunteer activities and are pursuing a postsecondary education.

Intended for a graduate of a Slave Lake school entering a post-secondary program. Selection will be based on academics, participation in extracurricular activities and an essay describing which program the applicant is pursuing and why he/she chose this particular program.

Guidelines

Applicants must be graduating from Roland Michener, and have applied to, or been accepted into a recognized post-secondary program, with the intent on pursuing a career in the field of dentistry.

Applicants have to be children of Swan River Natural Gas members as well as, children or landowners who are serviced by gas member towns, villages, countries or bands. Applicants must have received admission to the post-secondary institution and must have obtained an academic standing of at least 75% in core subjects.

Awarded annually to 2 graduates of Slave Lake area schools, including Slave Lake alumni who are pursuing post-secondary studies in the arts, fine arts and humanities.

Intended for students graduating from RMSS and pursuing post-secondary studies. The applicant must demonstrate high academic/ sport dedication and achievement.
