As a public body, High Prairie School Division (HPSD) must provide public access to records while strictly safeguarding the personal information of our students, staff, and community.
HPSD is governed by two provincial statutes:
- Access to Information Act (ATIA): Allows people the right to access records in HPSD’s custody or control, subject to limited exceptions.
- Protection of Privacy Act (POPA): Controls how HPSD collects, uses, discloses, and safeguards personal information. It also requires public bodies to maintain a Privacy Management Program.
Your privacy rights and assurances
- Access & correction: You have a right to request access to your personal information and ask for it to be corrected if it is inaccurate.
- Breach notification: If a privacy breach creates a real risk of significant harm, HPSD will notify you, the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (OIPC), and the Minister.
- Automated decisions: If HPSD uses automated systems to make decisions or recommendations about you, we will inform you at the time of collection.
- Independent review: If you are unsatisfied with a HPSD decision regarding access or privacy, you may request an independent review by the OIPC
