High School Pathways & Graduation Requirements

Planning for Graduation

Beginning in grade 9, High Prairie School Division students will create a high school plan with the ultimate goal of reaching graduation. Students will meet with the Career Coaches annually to review and update their unique plan, based on academic success and career aspirations. In addition to ensuring that they are on track to graduate, students and parents should also explore post-secondary programs to ensure that students are meeting admission requirements. Career Coaches are available to support this planning, and to guide students and families through this process.

Alberta High School Diploma Requirements

Core Course Streams

In high school, provincially developed programs are designed to accommodate transfer between course sequences at particular points. Students generally take the prerequisite in a course sequence (for e.g., English Language Arts 10-1, 20-1, 30-1). This route is designated by solid arrows. Alberta Education recognizes that students may transfer between course sequences and these possible routes are designated by broken arrows. Special circumstances may warrant student transfer at other points. Pre-requisite courses must be passed in order to move into the next grade level course.
