2025 Wildfire Updates

Kinuso School will be open today. The air quality in the area has improved since yesterday.

May 28, 2025 11:13 am - KINUSO SCHOOL CLOSURE
We have been given permission from Alberta Education to close Kinuso School due to poor air quality from the ongoing wildfire smoke.
School buses will be departing Kinuso School today at 12:15 p.m. to bring bus students home early. For any children who are driven to school, we ask those parents and guardians to pick up their children at noon.
We will notify parents at 6:30 a.m. tomorrow morning if the school will remain closed on Thursday, May 29.
School closures will be posted on our Division and School websites, social media, and emailed and texted to families. Please note you must opt-in to receive text messages. To opt-in for text messages from HPSD, text yes to 978338.

The smoke from wildfires in the region has resulted in very poor air quality in our schools in Joussard and Kinuso. The Superintendent has reached out to Alberta Education for direction on schools remaining open until the smoke has passed.
In the school, we have closed off the fresh air intakes to limit the amount of smoke entering the school via our HVAC system. We also have several carbon filter air purifiers running in congregated locations. All outside recess is cancelled, and we are limiting any strenuous activity for students.
For any parents who would like to pick up their children from school, you are welcome to do so. The school will remain open unless we are given direction from Alberta Education to temporarily close the school.
