Board Meeting Summary - December

The High Prairie School Division Board of Trustees met on Tuesday, December 16, 2025. After approval of the agenda with additions, Trustees proceeded through the agenda items.

The meeting started with a delegation from Brennan McDonald, District Principal of Collegiate Planning & Special Projects. Mr. McDonald presented a draft of administrative procedure 221 - standards for the selection, availability, and access to controversial materials. 

Superintendent & CEO Murray Marran spoke to the next agenda item, the 2026-27 school year calendar survey. Trustees discussed the option of having a multiyear school year calendar.

Deputy Superintendent Pam Heckbert presented the updates on the Georges P. Vanier School modernization.

Trustee Adams spoke to the next agenda item, communications. Trustee Adams sought clarity on whether the Division can improve overall communications. Trustee Shelp noted that Indigenous communities must be included as part of that conversation.

The Board approved the 2024-25 Annual Education Results Report. 

The Board further approved the capital purchase of shop equipment for Roland Michener Secondary School to a maximum of $15,000.

Trustees received and accepted the Superintendent’s Report, Finance Report, Trustee Reports, and Standing Committee Reports. Trustee Henkel made a special note of recognition to Mr. Terry Gunderson, who passed away this past week. Mr. Gunderson was an integral part of education in the province of Alberta. He was a key player in the development and formalization of education governance.
