Regular Board Meeting Summary - September 2021The High Prairie School Division Board of Trustees met for their regularly scheduled meeting on Wednesday, September 15, 2021. The Board approved the consent agenda, added items to the agenda, and moved into the remainder of the agenda items.

Trustees discussed advanced polls for the upcoming municipal elections. Advanced polls would not be necessary if the number of candidates was the same as the number of available positions in the respective wards.

The Board then discussed the parking of school buses in the Falher/Donnelly area. There will be a newly fenced area for spare and field trip buses to be parked. 

The next item discussed was the Alberta School Boards Association survey on COVID-19.

Trustees discussed the new federal holiday, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Events have been organized across the Division in every school, both prior to and on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, to recognize the legacy of residential schools. The Board voted to keep September 30 as an operational and instructional day.

The Board approved an amendment to the Memorandum of Agreement 2018-20 between High Prairie School Division and the Alberta Teachers' Association.

Trustees discussed the 2021-22 school re-entry plan. The Board ratified the amendments to the plan that were brought into effect on September 8, 2021.

The Board received and accepted the Finance Report. The Trustees also approved a request to put forth a request to use reserve funds to hire more education staff, both teachers and educational assistants, to accommodate an increase in the student population in Slave Lake.

Trustees approved the amended Advocacy Committee priorities to have presented to the incoming Board after the upcoming municipal elections.

Trustees also discussed the work done by the Evaluation Committee to date to present to the incoming Board after the upcoming municipal elections.
