Regular Board Meeting Summary - February 2022The High Prairie School Division Board of Trustees met via Zoom on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, for their regularly scheduled meeting.

Trustees discussed the upcoming Rural Caucus meeting, which has shifted to a virtual platform to accommodate the continued level of uncertainty of attending in-person conferences.

The next agenda item was on the new K-6 curriculum slated to be in effect in the upcoming school year. Trustee Henkel spoke to the engagement sessions that the Government of Alberta is hosting on the draft curriculum. Trustee Henkel noted that beyond the concerns about curriculum content, the message being echoed by participants is that the government hold off on the implementation of the draft curriculum until the 2023-24 school year in light of the ongoing pandemic and the significant impacts to learners and educators. Trustees approved a motion to send a letter to the Minister of Education to request that the draft K-6 curriculum requesting the proposed curriculum not be implemented until the 2024-25 school year.

Trustees accepted the minutes from the February 11, 2022, special board meeting regarding the changes in COVID-19 mandates announced by the Government of Alberta.

The Board accepted the Finance report after an update from Secretary Treasurer Jody Frowley. With no further agenda items, the meeting was adjourned.
