High Prairie School Division's staff and students participated in many activities last week in honour of Indigenous Veterans Day and Remembrance Day. It was great to see how teachers incorporated remembrance, peace, and gratitude into their art, language arts, music, and physical education classes. Local veterans attended some of these ceremonies, and in Joussard School, the older students had the opportunity to have a Q&A session with two local veterans.
Activities included:
-Learning and performing a song at the Remembrance Day ceremony
-Placing crosses along the main street of Slave Lake
-Student-led morning announcements
-Student-led assemblies
-Sending letters and postcards to veterans
-No Stone Left Alone
-Wreath laying
-Remembrance Day artwork
-Remembrance Day poetry
A special thank you to our veterans who took the time to attend Remembrance Day assemblies in the schools. Your continued support means so much. Thank you to our staff, who led students in so many heartfelt, thought-provoking activities and taught students about the meaning of peace and gratitude. Thank you also for coaching the younger students on listening respectfully when veterans and Elders are speaking. Your efforts are all truly appreciated.
