In June, we commemorate National Indigenous History Month. This is a time to acknowledge the history, heritage, resilience, and diversity of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples across Canada. Part of this is also learning about and appreciating the immeasurable contributions that First Nations, Inuit, and Métis have made and continue to make today.
The High Prairie School Division has many activities planned for this month, including tipi storytelling, rock teachings and
smudging, bannock and tea, medicine teachings, jigging, Inuit games, drum teachings, and Round Dances. We recognize that the best way to gain a deeper understanding of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis experiences is through their own voices. Therefore, throughout the month, local Elders and Knowledge Keepers will be stopping by the schools to assist with teachings and activities.
