E.W. Pratt High School hosted the tenth annual Tonesha Walker Memorial Tournament on December 2-3. After kicking off the tournament with an alumni game on Dec.1, HPSD students from Georges P. Vanier, E.W. Pratt, and Kinuso competed in the tournament amongst eight other schools. The Lady's Charger Division brought home the gold, with Fox Creek winning silver and joining Kapawe'no to play the championship game due to multiple injuries incurred by Fox Creek players. The Men's Charger Division won the silver medal, and the Men's Vanier Vipers took the bronze.

This annual tournament was renamed in honour of former Chargers player Tonesha 'Toni' Walker after her tragic passing in 2012. Chargers coach Jenelle Gallivan describes Tonesha as "a phenomenal player and teammate. She was one of the hardest workers on and off the court and was everyone's biggest cheerleader. Her smile was contagious and lit up the halls of our school. She was on track to graduate early and was destined to do great things". Sadly, Tonesha was taken from us too soon in a break and enter gone wrong.

Tonesha's family attended the tournament, chose Toni awards throughout, and presented sweatshirts to the winners. Tonesha's father, George Desjarlais, chose to present the winners with hoodies rather than medals, which was a great idea.

E.W. Pratt High School is always looking for ways to give back to the community as they are such great supporters, so this year they chose to combine the tournament with the food drive in Tonesha's honour as well. Wellness Coach Chelsea Bembridge spearheaded this campaign, challenging visiting teams and spectators to donate food items to the High Prairie & District Food Bank Society, which they very graciously did.

The High Prairie School Division would like to congratulate the winning teams and give a huge shout-out to all coaches, referees, and volunteers for making this tournament such a success. We will always remember Tonesha's vibrant team spirit, athletic talent, and generous heart.
