High Prairie, Alberta
– The HPSD Board of Trustees met on Wednesday, September 19th for their regular board meeting. Trustees approved their consent agenda and proceeded with their agenda.

Trustees moved the school report to the board for E.W. Pratt and Prairie View Outreach to accommodate the upcoming College of Alberta School Superintendents (CASS) meeting on the same day.

The Board discussed an invitation from the Village of Donnelly to meet to discuss general items of common interest. Trustees accepted the invitation and proposed that it coincide with their visits to schools in Donnelly and Falher at the end of November.

Trustees reviewed an audit service plan by MNP.

Board members reviewed and discussed third party reporting; government reporting forms were given to all required members.

Trustees reviewed a request to acknowledge the support from High Prairie Peace Officers Alan Bloom and Erica Thiessen for their continued support of HPSD. Discussion around the request included considering the support of other law enforcement officers and also the consideration for the nomination to be at a provincial level such as the Alberta School Boards Association (ASBA) Friends of Education Award or the Public School Boards’ Association of Alberta (PSBA) Special Contribution to Public Education Award.

The Board nominated Trustee Karin Scholl to be their representative for the ASBA Zone 1 Ad Hoc Committee. The Ad Hoc committee is focused on mental health issues including the recruitment and retention of mental health professionals.

Trustees completed a questionnaire regarding the Alberta Education 2019-2022 Business Plan.

Trustees reviewed letters to the Ministers of Education, Transportation, Infrastructure, Advanced Education, and Health inviting each of them to meet with the Board to discuss key issues between their ministry and the division. Trustees also reviewed briefing notes on the key issues.

Board members discussed the upcoming PSBA Fall General Meeting and areas of importance.

Trustees completed an ASBA position statement survey.

The Board reviewed the upcoming Divisional Professional Development Day and pipe ceremony.

A discussion on Administrative Procedure 241 - Healthy School Communities was held to review feedback from the changes.

Trustees then received a delegation from Assistant Superintendent Treva Emter on her portfolio of Human Resources. This additionally included a review of the proposed instructional time at each of the schools.

Trustees reviewed an action item regarding paving in front of Georges P. Vanier School in Donnelly. HPSD will be meeting with the Village of Donnelly to review the costs presented.

The Board then moved into closed for the remainder of their meeting.
