Moose Hide Campaign 2022

May 12 is the twelfth annual Moose Hide Campaign Day. The inspiration for this day came to Paul Lacerte, of the Nadleh Whut'en Band in British Columbia, and his daughter Raven as they hunted alongside the Highway of Tears. After bringing down a moose to help feed their family over the winter, they resolved to use its hide as a symbol of awareness and positive change.

The High Prairie School Division held its fourth annual handgames tournament on Thursday, April 21. We want to begin by thanking Knowledge Keeper Herman Sutherland and teacher Julia Sander for their drumming throughout the tournament, and for offering their guidance and patience to the players who were new to the game. Thank you to Indigenous Education Coach Jamie Chalifoux for assisting with drumming and organizing, Principal Spencer Smith for helping to organize, and teacher Brenda Coulombe, who has been a founding member of this tournament. At a special meeting on Friday, October 8, 2021, held by the High Prairie School Division Board of Trustees, the following motion was carried regarding vaccine mandates for adults in HPSD buildings: To require that all High Prairie School Division employees, volunteers, and HPSD partners follow the Administrative Procedure on mandatory vaccinations for Covid-19 and that the same administrative procedure be followed by all contracted service providers and tenants in HPSD buildings.

We have received notification from the RCMP that it is safe for all students and staff to continue attending regular classes tomorrow, Wednesday, September 22, 2021. The safety of students and staff is the top priority of High Prairie School Division. As such, we take any threat seriously and work closely with our partners in law enforcement to follow their direction when it comes to threats against our Division. In situations where the Division receives threats of any nature, we must ensure we are not compromising subsequent RCMP investigations. We continue to remain vigilant in protecting the health and safety of all students and staff. Should we receive further direction or guidance from the RCMP, that information will be sent to all students and staff. Thank you for your support and understanding.

Superintendent's Message

I would like to welcome all staff and students back into our schools for what I hope will be a full year of face-to-face, engaged learning. While the provincial government has lifted many restrictions, we will stay tuned to the changing conditions and respond to rules and protocols around COVID19. Presently only students from K-12 need to wear masks on the bus. There is no mandate for any student or staff to wear masks, social distance or stay in a cohort while at school.
